Unique location on the North Sea and the Veerse Meer
Vrouwenpolder has one of the widest beaches in the Netherlands and is located on both the North Sea and the Veerse Meer. This location gives bathers the choice between salt and fresh water. The wide beach ensures that guests can relax and have plenty of space. From the North Sea beach, the pillars of the storm surge barrier in the Oosterschelde are clearly visible. In the nearby water park Neeltje Jans you can have fun all day long with everything that has to do with water and the Delta Works. There is a water playground, seal show and a beautiful exhibition about the flood disaster in 1953. Many water sports are practiced on the Veerse Meer. In Vrouwenpolder and the immediate vicinity there are several restaurants where you can enjoy the hospitality of the Zeeland people. Several mainly small-scale events are organized during the year. Think of walking tours, a running competition, the mussel parties, multiple equestrian events and a beach volleyball and beach soccer tournament. Once a year the whole Vrouwenpolder is turned upside down, and that is during the Vrouwenpoldersedagen in the Ascension Weekend. Music performances, inter alia, take place there is a ring-stitch competition and there is a large market with many regional products.
For nature lovers, the area of Vrouwenpolder is definitely worth it. Located on Lake Veerse there is the nature reserve De Schotsman and between Vrouwenpolder and Oostkapelle lies the 400 hectare nature reserve Oranjezon. In both areas there is plenty to see and hear for bird lovers, including woodpeckers, owls and buzzards. Also the deer, fallow deer, wild cows and ponies live together in one area. The beaches of Vrouwenpolder The beaches of Walcheren, and therefore also the beach of Vrouwenpolder, have been awarded the blue flag seal for many years. They are therefore the cleanest and safest beaches in the Netherlands! Vrouwenpolder beach has no breakwaters, is wide and safe, child friendly and wheelchair accessible. For your convenience, sun loungers, windshields, umbrellas and beach cabins are available for rent. You can use showers and toilets for free and a rescue brigade guards your safety. The beach is maintained and cleaned daily. Sunbathe, swim, play with the children in the fine, pure sand and in between have a refreshing drink in one of the many beach pavilions; this is how a beach holiday should be! Dogs, kite surfing and kite flying are not permitted on the main beach at Breezand in the summer season. On the beach at the Veerse Gatdam at De DAM, dogs are allowed throughout the year and you can kite surf and kite to your heart's content.
